Hello there!
I'm always getting error doing the update, don't know what to do anymore

I saw the pinned thread but seems that I cannot launch "sfc /scannow", I'm getting the "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service." I tried something found online to let it start but didn't help.

Could you please help me out?

Thank you!

Hello and welcome!

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

  • Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Execute gsmartcontrol.exe; Let the install complete and launch the programme.
  • Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
  • Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;

I took a little bit longer than I imagined so I had to do it 2 times.

Those are the results:

SSD (where Windows is stored):
Code:
"Test #","Type","Status","% Completed","Lifetime hours","LBA of the first error"
1,"Extended offline","Completed without error","100%","1967","-"

HDD:
Code:
"Test #","Type","Status","% Completed","Lifetime hours","LBA of the first error"
1,"Extended offline","Completed without error","100%","2000","-"

In both cases there were no red or pink voices

I cannot launch "sfc /scannow", I'm still getting the "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service."

I know, but it will still help me as I get the error to work with :)

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service and just provide the link here.

I tried to enter the folder but it opened and closed at the same time, I'm doing a Malware scan right now, just to be sure.

I copied the file through CMD, see attached

Unfortunately your Components hive is damaged beyond repair and your only option is to reinstall Windows.

I'm very sorry for the bad news.

Oh.. that's a very nice thing to ear. But how was it damaged? I didn't do anything in particular

Can I use the repair function or do I have to format everything?

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell for certain. Could be a sudden power loss, could be underlying hardware failure or something entirely different.

Try the Repair Install. If that fails, you are going to have to format.
