Hi Guys,

I need your help again. I have a Seagate NAS running Windows Storage Server 2012. Over the last 3 months or so I've been getting the following error:
"Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes."

I've run through all the steps and here are the results of Step #4:

Beginning flash scan of Windows Update registry.
This process will take about ten minutes.

Due to the nature of your corruptions, scan times have been extended by
approximately 15-20 minutes. Please be patient and allow the operation to
complete.

After trying the update again, I had the same issue.

Please let me know if you need anything further.

Thanks! Derrick.

Hi -

I know you guys are busy but I posted this back on July 15th and haven't heard from anyone. Can you guys at least tell me if you are able to work on this? I would really appreciate it.

Thx - Derrick.

Please do the following:

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

Also, a few questions:

1. Did you try installing the update from Clean Boot?
2. Did you make any changes to the system prior to this happening?
3. Is your BIOS/firmware version up-to-date?

4. Please attach the following as well: C:\Windows\Inf\setupapi.dev.log.

Hi Softwaremaniac,

Here are some answers and the required files:

1. Did you try installing the update from Clean Boot?
I'm pretty sure I did at some point. I've been troubleshooting it for a while. I can try if you need me to.

2. Did you make any changes to the system prior to this happening?
Not that I can recall.

3. Is your BIOS/firmware version up-to-date?
I can't figure out where to even do that. This is the box we're working on:
Business Storage Windows Server 4-bay NAS | Seagate Support US

If you look-up how to do a firmaware upgrade (or even check for one) it gives you a help file that's not related to this specific version of this box.

Hi,

I can uninstall AVG but I can't uninstall the Sentinel System Driver Installer 7.5.0 as it's needed to run some required software.

Is that OK?

OK thanks.

I won't be able to get back on that machine today but when I do, I'll report back.

The system updated fine!

One thing that was different is that the system didn't ask to restart to finish installing the updates, which would be when it would have reverted (around 98%). I restarted anyway.

Does this mean that AVG Business Security can't be installed on this system for updates to install or would there be a work around during the installation of Windows updates?

Hi!

That's actually a pretty common issue. AV programs have low-level drivers which interfere with the process of updating.

In order for the updates to complete in some cases it is necessary to fully uninstall the security product.

Happy to have assisted.
