Good Day, Sysnative Team:

I have another problem with Windows Server Standard 2016 VM.
(This is a completely different machine than last ticket, this one is a VM)

Windows updates are failing on the machine.
I cannot install the 2024-07 Cumulative update.

(Online) Scandisk on C:\ --- No errors found

SFC /scannow --- Completes, but says:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth --- Fails at 93.0% ---
Error: 0x800f081f

The source files could not be found.
Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see Configure a Windows Repair Source.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

I followed the steps outlined in: Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions and have attached the files.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

Step 1. Download

SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

After your SFCFix, I tried to install the latest Windows updates, and they had to roll back.
DISM reports all is good.

Hi,

Please provide the CBS logs.

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply. If the file is too large to attach, upload the CBS.zip file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

What is the size of the System Reserved Partition and how many free space is available? Please post also a screenshot of diskmgmt.msc.

Hi,

You're System Reserverd partition is full, 0% free space! So you'll need to increase that partition with more free space, I would suggest to increase it with another 500MB.

I figured out what was filling the system reserved partition. Removed that. and was able to do everything.

Thank you Maxstar!

Issue resolved.

You're welcome. But could you please explain what was the issue why the System Reserved partition was running out of free space?
