We are attempting to help someone with an old Windows 2008 R2 server that was failing after a lightning storm.
It would still boot, so the plan was to convert the 2008 to a VM on a 2019 HyperV machine, then install a new 2019 VM, join it to the 2008 domain, then transfer active directory and everything over.
We used Starwinds converter, which has proven successful for us in the past. The P2V conversion said it was successful, but the 2008 VM will not boot, but at least we got the data (the drives in the 2008 server have since completely failed).
I believe it will not boot b/c this server was setup with the crappy Software RAID1 in a Dell T320 (S100 onboard RAID). We have booted it into repair mode and successfully ran chkdsk /f /r, but still cannot get it going.
Any suggestions on repairing the boot functionality of the 2008 VM? I'm thinking it needs something along the lines of BCDEdit, etc.... but still not sure anything will work due to it possibly looking for the RAID information on the Dell S100...?

Interesting case. Are you able to get the "correct" output for BCDEdit that shows you a partition for the OS? Do you see the volume for OS in Diskpart?
As for the driver question, you could try to move the driver file to another location and try to boot the OS again. It could be in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository or C:\Windows\System32\drivers and could start with "perc" or "megaraid".
Also, I would suggest to reach out to StarWinds support for the help as the OS could not boot after their conversion.
