I would appreciate some help.

I have not been able to update one of my Windows 2022 Servers for a couple of months. I've lost track of the hours I've tried to make this work (only after-hours as it is a production server and is still serving what it needs to serve.) It is successfully installing Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and Definition Updates.

Daily it is trying to install the 2023-06 Cumulative Update (KB5027225) but failing. Before this, it was failing install the last cumulative.

  • Error Code: 0x80070570
  • Downloading the update from the catalog at running manually fails.
  • sfc /scannow
    • Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    • Error: 193

An error occurred while attempting to start the servicing process for the image located at C:\.
For more information, review the log file.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log (I'll attach the log)
  • I've tried booting from Windows Media and running sfc and dism in the repair environment.
  • I've also tried the Windows Update reset where you delete a bunch of folders.
  • This is in event viewer thousands of times
    • Unable to start a DCOM Server: {0823B6F8-F499-4D5E-B885-EA9CB4F43B24}. The error:
      "2147943792"
      Happened while starting this command:
      C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.20348.850_none_f1e6b2645165e721\TiWorker.exe -Embedding

I have quite a few fully updated Windows 2022 Servers in my environment if that helps. This is also a virtual machine so if you want to have my try anything "dangerous" just let me know and I'll take a snapshot before I do it.

Having just found this forum, I'm perusing other posts to see what the experts ask for. I'll try to proactively give you the information you need to help me. I see y'all often ask for the components hive, the components scanner, and the CBS logs.

Great, please attempt to update. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

I would like to learn about this process and potentially start volunteering here. Do you have time to explain why the fixes you have posted are working?

If you are interested to learn more about Windows Update issues, and you have ambitions to become a volunteer to help here at Sysnative. I would suggest to send a PM to the following admins: @Tekno Venus @x BlueRobot and @Will Watts, they can provide you with further information about the Windows Update Academy.

The update installed! Windows Update reports I am fully up-to-date. Thank you!

I will reach out to the admins you mentioned. Thank you again!

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad to hear the problem has been resolved and this server is up-to-date now.. (y)
