Can you please do the following for me ....

First ...
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • The file will likely be too large to upload here, if so please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Please post me the link to the file

Next ...

  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
    • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing

  • Once selected, click File > Export....
    • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (.)
    • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Thanks.

I'm not getting e-mail notifications when you reply, so I only know that you have when I check manually. This is going to cause delays I'm afraid, sorry about that.

Will get back to you as soon as I've looked over the 2 hives you've posted.

I'm having trouble getting your CBS hive to load, can you please follow the instructions in Post #2 again, and post me a new copy of your .... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing ... hive.

Latest CBS.log is not flagging anything, so please try updating your machine.

If successful please let me know.

If not, please post the CBS.log created after your update attempt.

Had a feeling it might. So let's see if your latest CBS.log is a bit more illuminating, and can shine a light on what the problem is.

Back with you as soon as I've finished looking it over.

OK, just missing the ComponentFamilies key that goes with the missing Component and Deployment keys we've just replaced. My fault, I should have checked whether or not it was present in your Components hive before I posted my last fix.
