Hi,
I'm currently trying to install latest update KB5040437 on a Windows 2022 virtual machine.
Installation goes from 20% to 44% to 100% before failing with error code 0x800f081f.
Have tried installing from standalone file with no success.
The same cumulative updates have installed with no problem on another VM + Hyperhost.
I've run through the standard diagnostics with no success (e.g. DISM commands, Scannow, Windows Update Troubleshooter, etc).
DISM + CBS logs + Components.zip attached.
Any advice welcome!
Had similar issue back in January with an earlier update which you were able to solve, hopefully this one is solvable also!
Best regards and thanks,
BG1948.

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can help with this? I think it may be caused by a corrupted language pack as was the case with an earlier update that failed to install.
Thanks

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Hi,

This looks good, so please attempt to update and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Hi,

Please upload a new copy of the COMPONENTS hive.

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad to hear the problem has been resolved, explaining the exact cause is quite difficult! But in short I have replaced some missing files and registry entry's.
