Dear forum members,

my name is david lorenz from aaic soft systems gmbh in leipzig (germany). You already know me from the following post:

Windows Server 2019 - Update Fail 0x80070003 since months (VM 2 of 2)

We have had problems with exactly three customer VMs with the Windows Server 2019 Standard operating system for a long time. This is about the third VM (SONSRVSQL). However, the system no longer installs cumulative Windows updates and .net updates. The server runs microsoft sql server express 2019. Not more software products.

I have already read in and put the "SFCFix.exe" file on the desktop. I've also attached the logs and component file.

I have documented the errors with the following time stamps:

It Fails .NET at 02.04.2023 - ca. 09:45 with 0x80073701 + Windows at 02.04.2023 - ca- 09:45 with 0x80070003.

We have already tried the following:
- Allow the software distribution folder to be recreated
- DISM and Chkdsk
- Manual update installation (msp)
- Installation of the last service stack update (successful)
- Event viewer control

Maybe one of you can help us here. Unfortunately I cannot understand the logs.

Thank you in advance and have a pleasant rest of the week!

Great, please reboot the server and attempt to update. I expect .NET will fail, but we can fix that later as in the first thread.

In this case we need to install another .NET Framwork update using DISM. (I have removed the wrong log from the previous post).

Follow these instructions to install an update with DISM.
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type CMD.
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, select the option Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following command into it, and press enter. (Leave the CMD window open!)
Code:
MD C:\WUTemp
  • Now, download the following update (KB5017270) to: C:\WUTemp - Or copy this file from the download directory to C:\WUTemp. (Important!)
    Downloadlink: KB5017270
  • Copy and paste the following commands one at a time into the command prompt and press enter after each.
Code:
CD C:\WUTemp
EXPAND.exe windows10.0-kb5017270-x64_e3b6e098823a0e08110adee9400d44b9c00a824a.msu -f:* C:\WUTemp
DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\WUtemp\Windows10.0-KB5017270-x64.cab
  • Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors. Or take a screenshot of the command prompt window and paste it into your next reply.

Hello @Maxstar ,

now everything works like it shut. Thank you very much!

Do you offer training courses on analysis? Of course we would also be willing to pay here. We are very interested in how you come to the solution in such an error case.

I wish you a great week!

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad I could help to resolve all the issues... (y)

The Windows Update Academy here at Sysnative is temporarily closed, but there is a public section with different tutorials to fix common issues.

If you want to support our (volunteer) work, you could always consider to make a donation to keep this community running.

To be a bit clearer in terms of donations and how they be used, I will quote @Will Watts from another thread:

We partially fund the site via donations - these are spent on things like hosting costs and backend infrastructure, software licensing, tool development (e.g. certificate signing for tools we develop like SFCFix) and a few other misc costs.

Help provided here will always be free though! We just do this to help users :)

Hi,

Thanks for your donation to Sysnative. Have a nice week too!
