[SOLVED] Windows Server 2019 - CU failed to install past few months.

Hi there,

I have a physical server that is running on Windows Server 2019 Std and has been experiencing windows cumulative update error for the past few months (error 0x80073701). Meanwhile the updates for .net run smoothly.

I have problem loading the event viewer too.

SFCScan no issue, DISM encounter issue. Error: 0x800f0954

I thank you beforehand and appreciate your advice on the issue that my server is facing.

Tried to re-run the windows backup and encounter Install error - 0x80073701 for 2023-03 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 for x64-based Systems (KB5023702).

Attached is the latest CBS file.

Follow these instructions to remove an update.
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type the command CMD
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.

  • Let me know if it says it was successful or you get the message: The update KB4558998 is not installed on this computer.
 
Hi,

I was able to run the command to uninstall the said KB successfully and require restarting of the server (a very long one).

When I re-run the command for second time. Got message "The update KB4558998 is not installed on this computer"

  • Open the startmenu and type the command cmd.
  • After you find the Command Prompt, right click on it and select Run as Administrator.

  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.

  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Please try to install the Windows Backup feature and let me know the result. If it fails attacch a new copy of the CBS log.

  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.

Afterwards reboot the server and try to install the Windows Backup future again. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.
