I have an error 0x70060490 when trying to update a Windows Server 2019 machine.

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth is OK
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase gives the error
ComponentScanner reports no issues

I think I did identify the KB5006672 from the CBS.log file so I ran FRST with KB5006672 in the Search Registry option (as per [SOLVED] - Server 2016 updates fail with 0x80070490).

See all attached files.

Thanks a lot !

Hi,

Follow these instructions to remove an update.
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type the command CMD
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
Code:
wusa /uninstall /KB:5006672
  • Let me know if it says it was successful or you get the message: The update KB5006672 is not installed on this computer.

Hi Maxstar

I'm sorry I should have mentioned that I tried it already and it says that the update isn't installed.

Okay, here's the next fix to remove the remnants of this update.

Download the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link

Warning: This script was written specifically for this system. Do not run this script on another system.

  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards attempt to update. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Thanks again. The fix is in progress. Do you have an automated tool to convert the searchreg items into the fixlist ?

Yes, we are using different tools to automate some things! But they are not publicly available for several reasons - just to avoid further problems and/or incorrect usage.

OK, thanks. I'll try to see if I can write something in Powershell to convert the SearchLog.

It still failed on my end. Attached are the logs. I took the liberty to use FRST to search for KB5005543 and KB5004335. Attached is the SearchReg file too.

Hi Maxstar.

Here are the files requested.

"Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase" stops at 20% but it says successful.

Hi,

The latest CBS log is clean, so please run un the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Great, please attempt to update. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Hi,

Upload your DRIVERS Hive

  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config and locate the DRIVERS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named DRIVERS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

  1. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
