Hello there, Good Day!

I have a physical server running on Windows Server 2016 Standard. Windows update has been stuck at an old security KB5012170. The only way working to install is manually. Beside that, the current CPU usage is at constant 26% even when idling.

SFCScan no issue, DISM operation completed successfully and components scanner did not found any corruptions.

I thank you beforehand and appreciate your advice on the issue that my server is facing.

Would like to provide an update on my re-attempt to fix the issue. Clone a test computer and clean the update catalog folder by rename the SoftwareDistribution folder.

The latest available KB show up and can be installed pending restart. Problem happen after restart to completed update which resulted in boot error.

Dear Admin.

Please kindly help to look into the issue that my server is facing. Your time and advice are deeply appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

Could you please check if the following dump files exists?

C:\Windows\Minidump\*.dmp
C:\Windows\Memory.dmp

Hi Maxstar.

Thank you so much for the respond.

The clone server (VM) that hit blue screen has been removed due to lack of space in our existing physical server especially the growing snapshot file.

The issue and state of the production server remain the same as in the first post.

Hi,

Open an elevated command prompt, run the following command and attach UpdateList.txt to your next post.
Code:
wmic qfe list brief /format:texttablewsys > "%userprofile%\Desktop\UpdateList.txt"

wushowhide.diagcab to hide an update.
  • Double click on the wushowhide.diagcab file and press Next.
  • Now the tool will search for updates and performs a scan to detect problems.
  • When this process is complete click on Hide updates.
  • Now an overview will appear with updates that have not yet been installed.
  • Select KB5012170 and press Next and let me know the result.
  • When the troubleshooting has complete you can close the tool.

Hi,

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply.

Please disconnect this server from WSUS and try to update using Windows Update itself and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Tried few method (exclude from the GPO, disjoin from domain) that will disconnect the server from getting update from WSUS but not working. Still stuck in this page when open the check for update.
