Good Day Sysnative Team

I have a problem with Windows Server 2016

SFC /scannow stops after 39%. The Windows updates are also failing on the machine.

I will post the CBS logs shortly

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

Step 1. Run the System File Checker again with Process Monitor running.
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Run SFC /Scannow just like you have in the past.
3. Wait 30 seconds and then stop Process Monitor You can simply do this by clicking the square (CTRL +E) on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up the LogFile.PML and upload it to WeTransfer - Send Large Files & Share Photos Online - Up to 2GB Free and provide the link, please attach also a copy of the latest CBS logs for the time stamps.

Step 2. Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hmm, the last error is from 08:47 this morning, and the last line shows "2023-10-16 10:35:29, Info CSI 00002f13 [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction".

Please run the System File Checker again with Process Monitor running and stop the trace after 2 minutes when SFC fails.

Hi,

Yes, but I had to install a VM with some old updates which were all expired and removed from the update catalog.

Step 1. Download

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the System File Checker again with Process Monitor running. If it fails attach the new *.PML tace and the latest CBS log.

While it was in the process of task 4 out of 6, the SFCFix came up with the following error

SFCFix Has Crashed

Something has gone horribly wrong and SFCFix has crashed. Would you like SFCFix
to submit a crash report to the developer so that this problem can be fixed?
Type "y" for yes or "n" for no and press enter to continue:

I've included the crashdumb along with the CBS and PML logs

It seems you have started SFCFix.exe without the provided SFCFix.zip file, please follow the instructions below again and post only the result of SFCFix.

Download SFCFix.zip (from post #10) and drag it into SFCFix.exe and post the result.

  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

I've run the SFCFix again and it completed and created a txt file. I've run the sfc /scannow again it completed and found corrupt files but it could not repair them.

Hi,

With each scan, SFC repairs the same file (in a loop), so please do the following to perform a file scan for the file above.

  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Please do the following as well. Open an elevated command prompt, run the following command and post the result:
Rich (BB code):
certutil -hashfile C:\Windows\WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-windows-naturallanguage6-base_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.2368_none_d0f01ecee4747f8e\NlsData0000.dll SHA256

It should give those hash values.

It has returned with the following after running the command

SHA256 hash of file C:\Windows\WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-windows-naturallanguage6-base_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.2368_none_d0f01ecee4747f8e\NlsData0000.dll:

CertUtil: -hashfile command completed successfully.

I did run an SFC Scan again and it still displays that it did find corrupt files and repaired them

Please find the attached SFCFix and CBS log

Hi,

Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Good Day Maxstar

The DISM repair reached 94% and failed

Please find the attached CBS logs as requested
