[SOLVED] Windows Server 2016 in-place upgrade to windows server 2022

Hello,

I have been trying to upgrade windows 2016 system to Windows server 2022 with no success. I have tried many things including disabling non-Windows services with msconfig, unplugging all peripherals, try the update with that, etc. The errors and FRST log are attached

I have run out of ideas. I have followed the Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions and I have attached all the logs.
I appreciate your help in advance.

We Couldn't install Windows Server

The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error SYSPREP_RESPECIALIZE operation....

(sometimes it is 1st Boot.. 2nd Boot)
 
Hello,

I try to upgrade to windows 2022 but failed..
did the SFC Scan and DISM; please find the Components and CBS export.

Appreciate your help in advance.

Provide the profile information of this server.
  • Click the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
    Copy and paste the following commands one at a time into the command prompt and press enter after each.

    reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList" /s > "%userprofile%\desktop\ProfileList.txt"
    reg query "HKEY_USERS" >> "%userprofile%\desktop\ProfileList.txt"
  • These commands will collect the System and Application logs and create ProfileList.txt on your Desktop.
  • Attach this file in your next reply.

Hi,

It seems Trend Micro Apex One was installed on this server, that has recently been removed, but there are still some remnants.

So I would suggest to run this tool "Secure Common Uninstall Tool" from Trend Micro first.

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool again.
  • Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  • Right-click to run the tool as administrator.
  • Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  • Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

There are still some remnants of Trend Micro, but there is also an issue with the license of this Server.

  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Please try the in-place-upgrade to Windows 2022 again, if it fails attach the following logs, setupact and setuperr.log.
 
in-place-upgrade windows 2022 failed in teh FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP_SPECIALIZE operation.

Yes, It the the domain administrator account.
but I also change to WORKGROUP. (discount from domain)

can extend to get more space. It is on Hyper-V.
 
Then I would suggest to resize the VHD to at least 120GB just to be sure there's enough free space.
