Hello @Maxstar ,

I am having issues to my belief that are identical to the issues in this thread ([SOLVED] - Windows Server 2019 can't install/update .Net Framework 4.8 error 0x80092004)

Instead of KB4486153 (For 2019), I am trying KB4486129 (The 2016 version of this KB). It fails to install.

For some history I will say that I am having issues with the latest CU (July 2024) for .NET 4.8 (Says it's not applicable to my system), and what I've typically done is if the KB for the base 4.8 (KB4486129 in this case) is not showing in installed updates, I install it, then the newest CU installs. This is the first time I have not been able to have this fix the issue. I know that once I get this KB4486129 installed, I can proceed with further CUs. This fix has also worked with 2019 (KB4486153).

Can you provide some insight/direction on some actions I can take. DISM has not resolved it, and sfc has not either.

Here is some gathered info out of the CBS log:

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Step 1. Download
61f7aba7309a1-ComponentsScanner_Icon.png
ComponentsScanner and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click ComponentsScanner.exe and select "Run as administrator", click Yes on the UAC (User Account Control) prompt which appears.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Once complete, a report will be saved to your desktop called ComponentsScanner.txt.
  • Post the logfile ComponentsScanner.txt as attachment into your next reply.

Step 2. Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Step 3. Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

Hi,

This looks good, but it is a mystery why the latest CBS showed the experpt above. So please attempt to update again with Process Monitor running.

Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor a minute or two after it failed to be sure everything is logged. You can simply do this by clicking the capture icon (CTRL +E) on the toolbar as shown below.

Process-Monitor.png

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up the LogFile.PML and upload it to WeTransfer | Send Large Files Fast - Up To 2GB Free and provide the link.
6. Upload also the latest CBS log for the time stamps.

Looks like its over 2 gigs. Are there any filters I can apply that we know are not needed so I can shrink the logfile down?
