I have a Windows Server 2016 (1607) machine that has, according to DISM, a repairable issue.

dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

When trying to repair it it fails with error code 0x800f081f.

Other machines on the same OS and of similar age do not have these file.
I therefore have the following two questions:

1. Does anybody have these files so that I can make a fix zip file for SFCFix?
2. Is there a way to identify which specific update these files originate from?
   If there is then assuming the fix hasn't been withdrawn it would be a relatively quick exercise to quickly deploy a new VM on the same OS, patch it, and then get the required files from.

2. The missing files are the RTM components. When you run DISM with the ISO mounted as source it should be resolve this issue as well.

So what you can do is the following.

I'm busy deploying the earliest build of 2016 available from the marketplace images... not sure what build it would be relative to using the retail or evaluation ISOs.

I'm running different builds and have a number of snapshots to revert an VM to a specific build or RTM (first build).

Here's the next batch with replacement files.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.

• Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
• Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
• Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

• SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
• Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
• Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.

DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

The build number of the ISO does not matter, you just need to be sure the RTM payload files are not compressed inside the WinSxS folder.

There were still more files to be fixed after the latest SFCFix batch. Using the input and guidance though I quickly deployed another VM and did the DISM using this VM's repository... and it went through! I've done a subsequent sfc /verifyonly and a dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth and both went through successfully. Busy doing an analyzecomponentstore and possible startcomponentcleanup after... the WinSxS repository is some 43GB+ in size!

Are these identified as RTM payload files based on the version number being 10.0.14393.0 (emphasis on the build number at the end being zero)?

Yes, the build number 14393.0 refers to the RTM files. And if no Reclaimable Packages are found, there's no need to run DISM with the /StartComponentCleanup parameter.

What of the Component Store Cleanup Recommended : Yes bit though?
The basic workflow I have is:

1. Do sfc /verifyonly
2. If verifyonly shows issues then perform a sfc /scannow. If there are no issues skip to step 7.
3. If scannow has issues then perform a dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
4. If restorehealth has issues then troubleshoot by using the DISM and CBS log files
5. Once restorehealth goes through properly then perform a sfc /scannow
6. If scannow shows issues repeat steps 3 to 5
7. dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
8. If scanhealth shows issues then do dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
9. If restorehealth has issues then troubleshoot by using the DISM and CBS log files
10. Once restorehealth goes through properly then perform a dism /online /cleanup-image /analyzecomponentstore
11. If analyzecomponentstore shows recommends a cleanup then perform a dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

This [recommendation] is set when the Component Store contains files which are not necessary anymore. So basically, you can ignore this message, in particular because Windows will run a sheduled task to clean-up the WinSxS folder.
