Hello and welcome!

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download this update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows8.1-KB4499151-x64.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
  5. Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows8.1-KB4499151-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up. If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log

Note: If you get the message that no packages that require processing were found, use the following command instead:

dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows8.1-KB4499151-x64.cab\Windows8.1-KB4499151-x64.cab

If successful, retry one of the updates that failed and attach CBS.log if it fails again. Do not attempt optional updates. If one update succeeds, move on to the next one.

The dism run ok, reboot and tried the KB4520005 again and it now installed fine, reboot, and also tried to install some recommended uptades and it also went fine, magic :)
Could you please explain what is happening in this process, how do you find what next KB to dism-add, and what could cause the problem from start?
We have a lot of reocuring wsus problem with many om the 2012 R2 servers.

Great!

I checked the logs and saw that the registry was missing some entries related to the update I installed, so I used DISM to reinstall it in order to fix it and import the missing entries automatically.
