[SOLVED] Windows Server 2012 R2 won't update to KB2919355

Windows Update says the only available update is KB2919355 but the update size is stated to be a mere 37KB.

Attempting to install the update sometimes results in failure with error code 80246013, or more commonly claims to have succeeded, but then just lists the exact same update again after checking for more updates.

Downloading and running the offline installer for KB2919355 gives the error, "This update is not applicable to your computer", as does the installer for KB2919442 which is supposedly a prerequisite.

Get-HotFix in powershell returns nothing.

Dism /Online /Get-Packages returns "No packages found".

Things I've tried:
  • Windows Update troubleshooter
  • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:X:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess (using a Windows folder from another working server)
  • sfc /scannow
  • Script Reset-WindowsUpdate.ps1
sfc finds no problems. Dism instantly jumps to 100% and says "The component store corruption was repaired."

I've run SFCFix but it just ends after a few seconds and the log says "No corruptions were detected."

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

After checking for updates, Windows Update now says "No updates are available".

However, the .NET 4.8 installer says KB2919355 still needs to be installed. (This is what alerted me to the problem in the first place).

The offline installer for KB2919355 still says "This update is not applicable to your computer".
 
Thanks for the info. Please do the following.

1. Click your Start button and type cmd in the search box. Right-click on cmd from the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes if the UAC prompt comes up.
2. Copy/Paste the following in to the command-prompt window and hit enter.
wmic qfe list brief /format:texttablewsys > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\hotfix.txt"

3. This will create a file on your desktop named hotfix.txt. Please attach this to your next reply.
 
Please do the following:

Step#1 - Export CBS hive
  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (.).
  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload to Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and just provide the link here.
