Hello,
I've been having issues with resolving Windows Update issues on a Windows Server 2012 R2 Server. I had a couple others that had this issue that was resolved by installing specific updates manually but the follow errors won't specify which packages are invalid. Can someone assist? Thank you in advance.

I've read this thread and seem to have a similar issue but I don't think it's related to a firewall. Restoring a Backup of the COMPONENTS Hive - What are the issues?

Latest CBS.log is attached.

Hi Welcome to Sysnative,

DISM scan
  • Please open up a Command Prompt Window as a Administrator, instructions for Windows 8.x.
  • Inside the command prompt window type or Copy & Paste the following command:
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Note: This may take some time to finish. Let me know if the process reaches 100% or not and any error reported
  • Locate the log c:\Windows\logs\cbs\CBS.log copy the file to the Desktop, Zip it and attach to your post.
Note: If the file is too big to attach please upload it to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

I tried this combination before your response as well and still have issues.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore
SFC /SCANNOW

Ran DISM this morning as you instructed and received the following screenshot. CBS log attached.

Hi,

SFC scan
  • Please open up a Command Prompt Window as a Administrator.
  • Inside the command prompt window type or copy & Paste the following command:
    sfc /scannow
Note: This may take some time to finish. If the result is not "No integrity violations found" or equivalent please do the following:

Export the CBS folder
  1. Open the folder C:\Windows\Logs
  2. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy
  3. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS
  4. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder
  5. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created
If the zip file is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Good.

Check the History of installed updates, what is the last one that failed to install?

This server has been a little finnicky. I tried rebooting I think last Friday and it was getting stuck on an update and attempts to roll back which took over an hour. I'll have to try this again after hours and see what happens. Will Update when I do. Thanks.

Thanks for the update.

I have a suspicion about what the problem might be please provide the following:

Export the CBS folder
  1. Open the folder C:\Windows\Logs
  2. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy
  3. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS
  4. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder
  5. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created
If zip file is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Attach also the log: c:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log

Hi,

It's a different problem that I was thinking...

Please run c:\Windows\System32\diskmgmt.msc and post a picture showing all the partitions of the main disk.

Right click on the System Reserved partition and using Change Drive Letter and Paths temporarily assign a drive letter Y: to it

Then on the Command Prompt type:
Code:
dir /S /A Y:\ > "%userprofile%\Desktop\FilesList.txt"

Attach to the post the file named FilesList.txt that should be now on the Desktop

From the Command Prompt Run:
Code:
chkdsk /f /x y:

Check if the Y: drive have some free space.

There was no space free. See attached.

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
  • Download FRST or FRST x64 and save it to the Desktop.
(Please pick the version that matches your operating system's bit type. If you don't know which version matches your system, try FRST if it say that is not compatible with your OS you have to use FRST64)
  • Execute FRST/FRST64 right click on the icon
    FRST.gif
and choose Run as Administrator. Make sure all other windows are closed.
(When the Tool opens for the first time you must click Yes on the disclaimer.)
    FRST.png
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will produce a log called (FRST.txt) in the same directory the Tool is run from.
  • The first time the Tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt).
  • Please attach both logs to your post.

Note: If FRST interface isn't in English please close it and rename the file to EnglishFRST.exe or EnglishFRST64.exe before doing the scan, to get logs in English.
