Hello i am new to all of this and I am attempting to learn as I go. I have been unable to find a solution to my issue. I have read many similar threads here but for everything I try I hit a wall. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Listed above are all of the updates on my server that are set to be installed. But when I try to install I get the error 80073712. I tried to install them each individually to see if one was causing an issue but each one still gave me the same error. I tried to run the SFCfix software that I've seen mentioned on some of the threads but I get this every time:

Also I got the SFCfix to work. But it came back saying there was no corruption. So I don't know what to do now.

OK, please start with the following so I can collect some info.

SFC Scan
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Right-click on this file and choose Send To...Compressed (zipped folder). Please upload this zipped file CBS.zip to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hi Brian,

I attempted the scan and received the message "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation"

I will run a CHKDSK C: scan closer to closing time so as not to interrupt my team. I will update tomorrow on progress.

attempted the scan and received the message "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation"

It's OK if you received this message. No need to run a chkdsk at the moment. Please zip/attach your CBS.log.

Looks like you may have a corrupt hive.
Code:
2016-12-28 15:23:04, Error                 CSI    00000006@2016/12/28:21:23:04.262 (F) base\wcp\componentstore\storelayout.cpp(3856): Error STATUS_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT originated in function ComponentStore::CRawStoreLayout::OpenCanonicalDataKey expression: (null)
[gle=0x80004005]

Please do the following so I can validate.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

I don't unfortunately. We just recently switched our backup process. Also I'm not sure how far back I would need to go to find it. Would I be able to pull that single file from the boot disk? Are there any other options for me to get the file?

Let's check to see if that file exists anywhere else. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Unfortunately there's not much I can do at this point. Unless you have a recent good copy of this file from backups there's nothing else that can be done. A rebuild of the server or a repair install of the server are likely your only options.

Ok, well I really do appreciate the help. At least I can stop beating my head against the wall.
Can you help me with the repair install or point me to a good walk through of it?

Make sure you have a good backup (as always) before attempting the repair install. It's not normally done or recommended to do on servers so you will have to make that decision. I can say that I have done this sucessfully a few times.

Basically just put the media in (i.e. DVD or USB) and run the setup.exe directly from the media. Same steps as follows but using Server media.

Repair Install Windows 8
