Hello

We have 2 sites. The production and the disaster. We are using WSUS to push the updates. On the disaster site i cannot install the updates anymore. Have in mind that we are using vmware as virtualization platform.
Lets take for example the vm that is acting as domain controller to the dr site

The following updates are available:

4556401 2020-05 security and quality rollup .net
4556853 2020-05 security only quality update for windows server 2012r2
4556405 2020-05 security only update for .net
4561603 2020-06 cumulative security update for internet explorer 11
4561666 2020-06 security monthly quality rollup for windows server 2012r2
4561673 2020-06 security only quality update for windows server 2012 r2
3172729 security update for windows server 2012 r2

So far i tried:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth --> The component store corruption was repaired , the operation completed successfully --> windows update--> install all the updates --> vm restarted --> we couldnt complete the updates
sfc /scannow --> windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations.
tried to install manually the package 4561666 --> the installation completed successfully --> vm restarted --> on the blue screen i got a message we couldnt complete the updates
disable the wu and bits , rename the softwaredistribution , i started the services again --> check for updates --> install all the 7 updates --> failed

Could you please help me out?

Hello and welcome!

Please export your CBS folder:

Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions

Also, provide the following:

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

The CBS folder contains no useful info as all of the logs are old and outdated. The CBS.log from yesterday does not contain any useful info. Can you retry one of the updates and attach CBS.log and C:\Windows\Inf\setupapi.dev.log if it fails?

Give me a few minutes, its installing the updates now. I will upload the files you requested in 20 mins tops

New CBS file : new-CBS.rar
Setupapi.dev.log : setupapi.dev.rar

This is really weird. I selected all the 7 updates, installed them, i restarted the vm twice just in case. i went to update history it says 4 of them failed 3 succeeded. hmmmmmm. Then i went back to window update and guess what... i have 7 updates to install

Yup, you have driver issues. Digital Signature Enforcement has to be disabled via the Startup Menu and then the drivers have to be imported oen by one using the PnPUtil command.

okay, i will disable the digital signature enforcement. Could you please let me know how i can import the drivers with pnputil? all the drivers have issues?

Code:
!!! sto: Failed to find driver update 'C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_modemcsa.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_0aea673f1ec83f82\modemcsa.inf' in Driver Store. Error = 0x00000490

Add Missing Package
1. Click the Start button and type cmd.exe in the search box.
2. Right-click on the cmd that comes up and select Run as administrator.
3. Once you are at the command prompt, copy/paste the following line and hit enter.
pnputil -a C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\amd64_modemcsa.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_0aea673f1ec83f82\modemcsa.inf

Let me know if it says successfully installed.

If it does, repeat the process for all the drivers listed in the setupapi.dev.log.

Hello softwaremaniac,

Sorry for the delay of my response. I disable the digital signature enforcement then on an elevated command prompt i copied the command from your post and unfortunately the import failed
