Hello,

We have a virtual windows server 2012 R2 Datacenter hosted remotely.
For several months, i'm unable to install windows security updates and other KB. Got the error code : 80073712.
Also, I can't seem to add features or roles in system : "Store component is corrupted"

I try this commands :

DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
and
DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:wim:d:\sources\install.wim:4 ( 4 is for datacenter version)

DISM error is the same : 14098
I got this error message : store component is corrupted

My dism.log and cbs.log is available here

I tried sfc /scannow but got this error : Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

I don't know what to do, I'm completely blocked :banghead:. Anyone can help me ?

Thanks

Hello and Welcome!

Please manually upload the components hive by following these instructions:

Upload Components Hive
  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  2. Right-click on the current COMPONENTS file and select copy
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  3. Right-click on your Desktop and select paste
  4. Right-click on the COMPONENTS file on your Desktop and select Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder
  5. Upload the zip from your Desktop to a file sharing service such as DropBox, OneDrive, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.

I tried to copy the requested file. even after two reboots, I have not had the right of access because the file was in use by the system.
However, I check the file size and it was only 256 KB. On my other servers running good, components made several dozen MB.

is what revived installing windows server 2012 R2 and choose "Migrate" can be a viable solution?
I should not lose my data, but I should properly reinstall and reconfigure SQL Server databases or the will retain their originals settings?

Do you have a recent backup of this server? If so, see if there is a larger components hive in the backup.

Hello,
No, after verification, I have no backup that does not have this problem.

In that case I think a repair install (in-place upgrade) as you suggested earlier is your best option.

Be sure you have a good backup of your databases before beginning :)
