I have a production Windows 2008 R2 Server that has the dreaded "Server Manager Error" Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: Server execution failed (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80080005 (CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE))

Along with this issue I am getting the "No updates are installed on this computer" In control panel when I try to viewed installed updates. Also I can not successfully installed updates into the server. It also will never actually restart correctly and I have to do a manual Power off / Power on. The only way to get it to restart correctly is to disabled the Windows Modules Installer & Windows Update service.

I have tried replacing the contents of C:/Windows/servicing/packages with a known good working server and that didn't not fix it. When I run the Update readiness tool it comes back clean. I have also attempted sfc /scannow with no results. This is a production machine and I am at my whits end.. I can't introduce another Exchange 2010 server in the infrastructure and need to get this one working correctly. ALL HELP to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!! I am including all information and log files in this post. I have already ran the sfcfix utility.

Update when I try to run SFC /scannow it will not run. Just gives me the error Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service. I made sure all the correct services were running. (Windows Modules Installer) and it is. I have tried it in safe mode as well.

ZComputerWIZ,

I just want to say thank you for pointing me in the direction of the tool with your very detailed instructions. That actually did the trick on my server and got all those errors resolved. That is a very handy tool Thank you for helping me so much. I am glad it was simple and that running that tool resolved it. I tell you I ran the Microsoft Windows update repair tool and they didn't do crap! I will definitely keep that tool in my back pocket for the future if I encounter this again. I will be making a donation in the near future.

Thanks again!

Jason
