Windows Server 2008 R2 error viewing features and roles

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named Bruce1270. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Hi Advancedservers

My name is Bruce1270 and I shall be assisting you under the watchful eye of Softwaremaniac. Apologies for the delay.

First, I need to get a key from your registry. Please do the following

Step#1 - Export Component Based Servicing key

1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing

4. Once selected, click File > Export....
5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
6. Name this file CompBS (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
7. Upload to SendSpace and provide the link here.

Hi Advancedservers

I haven't heard from you in a while. Do you still need assistance?

Hi there,

Please do the following

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.

  1. Please download the file SFCFix.zip to your desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  2. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  3. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  4. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  5. SFCFix will now process the script.
  6. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  7. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put tags around the log to break up the text.

Hi Advancedservers

I'm discussing my latest fix with my instructor so should hopefully be posting further instructions very soon. I haven't forgotten about you.

Apologies for the delay.

Hi Advancedservers

I would like you to check what updates are offered through Windows Update
  1. (Optional)Check that your Windows Updates setting is set to Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them
  2. Click Check for Updates then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your system.
  3. If you see a message telling you that important or optional updates are available, or telling you to review important or optional updates, click the message to view the updates to install.
  4. Take a screenshot of the updates listed and attach to your next post.
