Hi,

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit and I am unable to perform security updates. Error code 800B0100 is the outcome. I have attempted to download and run the Microsoft Update Standalone Package but it will not proceed past "Checking for updates" part. I have also noticed that if I go to Windows and type in CMD (or anything), it will not return any results.

Hi tling :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. Follow the instructions below please.

  • Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go throught the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes);

  • Attach this log in your next reply;
Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

Hi Aura,

I downloaded the SURT scan and ran it but it does not work. As I stated in my first post, it does not go past "Searching for updates on this computer..."

I have included a screen shot of what is going on. I also am unable to search for any programs in the search bar of the start menu. When I type a name of a program, it does not return anything for results.View attachment Screen Shot.docx

Alright, let's go with a SFC scan then :)

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

SFC didn't report anything wrong. Follow the instructions below please.

Sorry about the delay. A fix should be posted tomorrow morning, since I have the update downloaded on my work laptop. I had a hard time finding it since it's not available on the Microsoft Download Center.

The attached file is not named SFCfix.zip but instead Packs.zip. Is this okay?

That's my mistake, wrong set of instructions. Adjusted my post above.

Good :) We need to run another fix (more packages needs to be replaced).

Updates went just smooth Aura. Thanks for all your help!

Can you explain all that was done? I'm curious to know what we just did.
