Hi I'm new to this forum. My windows 7 64-bit OS PC has been having a number of issues and I ran windows updates. It shows updated. Next, I ran sfc /scannow and it says
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

I downloaded SFCFix (by nimiero) but it mentioned "some detected corruptions could not be repaired automatically. You therefore need to seek the assistance of a human analyst in order to fix them." It recommended me to seek help on sysnative.com which brings me here. I have also attached a file "SFCFix log file" and the CheckSUR.log which shows the corruptions.

Thank you for your time in advance! :)

Hi I'm Gary R,

I'm a Security Analyst, and a Windows Update Trainee, and I'd like to help you with your problems.

As a trainee, any instructions I give you must first be checked by a qualified update expert, before I post them. This will by necessity introduce some delay to any of my replies, so please be patient.

I am looking over your logs now, and will be back as soon as I've finished analysing them.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.

  • Download SFCFix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and also save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Next ...

  • Restart the computer.
  • Run the command SFC /SCANNOW in an elevated command prompt and report the result.
  • If it fails, attach a zipped C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log to your next reply.

Hi Gary,

Thank you very much for your time and help. Here is the SFCFix.txt. I am now able to run sfc /scannow and Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

However, I'm still experiencing system issues and tried to run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth but encountered error 87. "The restorehealth option is not recognized in this context." I have attached the DISM log file below.

I am grateful and really appreciate your time in fixing my corrupted files.

Please follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log.

  • Download SURT for your system. (Windows 7 SP1 x64)
  • Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go through the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes).
  • On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
  • Attach this log to your next reply.

Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

Hi Gary,

Thank you for your fast response. Unfortunately I am unable to install the SURT update. It says that it failed. :(

How does it fail ?

Does it just fail to complete, in which case you need to give it more time, or does it give you an error code, in which case what was the code ?

If it failed with a code, and you don't have the code, please try running SURT again, and if it fails again, this time please note down what the error code is.

Hi Gary, sorry for the delay and for being unclear previously. Somehow, I am able to install successfully now after waiting for 1.5hours. Previously, it just said that it failed to install the update without providing any error code or information.

I have attached the CheckSur.log below. I rebooted my computer and ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth but still encountered error 87 again. I have attached the DISM log file below too.

The reason that DISM fails when you use the following command ... DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth ... is because the version of DISM that comes with Windows 7 does not support that command.

That's why we use SURT on Windows 7 to perform the same function.

Your SFC log now shows no faults, and your CheckSur log also reports no faults, so there does not appear to be any system corruption present on your computer.

Have you tried updating, and if you have, were you successful, or did you have problems ?

If you had problems, please post your .... C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

It's been over 3 days since I last posted, and I have not heard back from you.

Do you still need my help ?

If I have not heard back from you within 24 hours I will presume not, and close this topic.
