Hi,

I have been getting an message saying that my Windows' isn't genuine, after i installed too updates from MSE? Not sure what is going on. I have run the Windows Activation Update tool to check to make sure that it is in fact genuine and it told me that i have some software that might be bad for my computer. All I have is bit torrent, but I use that for a lot of my linux downloads. Not sure what could be causing it. I am running Windows 7 SP1 64bit.

Edit: I have removed Bit torrent and it is still not working.

Did it say which software or was it refering to Windows?

Is this a OEM system with a OEM license or a retail license?

Which MSE updates were they? I haven't had any problems.

I wasn't told what software it was talking about. I built my computer myself about 1 year ago, and when I bought all the parts from a local vendor they gave me a DELL Reinstallation DVD of Windows 7 Premium 64-bit.

If it's not a Dell board I'm surprised it didn't flag it on install as non genuine since of course it is not.

In order for it to install without asking for a key on a non-Dell motherboard they have to have used some type of activation hack/crack.

Yeah that is what I asked them, and they said that it would work. Does this mean that I am going to have to spend 100 bucks to get a "real" copy of windows?

Also, I just ran the Mircosoft Genuine Advantage Diag Tool and here are the results:

Well great that is just not what I need to have go on my long list of things to buy, which i can't afford right now.

From where did you get the license originally? did it come pre-installed? can you force the vendor to refund/replace the item?

Definitely a dodgy vendor (Sorry - skim-reading in an attempt to catch up!) - You can try threatening to publicise the problem (or going to the authorities) if they don't cough up with a legal copy of Windows, assuming they haven't already been closed down by MS for similar offenses. (I know of one shop in my area that's been shut down twice - the management 'changed' from husband to wife after the first time).
