Hi

I have a Windows 7 SP1 32bit, HP 8100 Elite PC that install all windows updates fine except for the Monthly Security updates which give Error Code: 80070643

It downloads the update fine, runs the install to 30% fine, does a reboot to finish the update and then keep in a reboot-loop unit I select 'Safe Mode' which uninstalls the update.

I have run the SFC /scannow which shows no errors.
I have run the SURT/DISM Scan again with no errors
SFCFixi shows no errors.

I have run a full Chkdsk /f
I have remove all AntiVirus, reinstall and run a full scan and remove again, it made no change
I have remove all HP specifit apps, again no change
I have setup a new Admin User, called User, and tried the updates from this user, no change
I have tried manually downloading the updates and installing, again no change.

As the CBS log is 24MB I have attached the WeTransfer Link.

CBS Log Download link WeTransfer

Any help of suggestions would be very welcome.

Many Thanks

Dominick

Hi and many thanks for your reply and assistance.

I will check with the 3rd party CAD software vendor, to make sure that we can remove the driver for testing and that it will be possible for us to reinstall it at a later stage.
I'm not sure if the driver removal procedures are part of their application and also if they have a more recent updated version of the drivers.

I will test your suggestion as soon as possible and again many thanks for your help.

I have removed the program which the CAD software company says contains the HASP drivers.
I have uninstalled the drivers from the 'Device Manager', 'Non plug and play driver'
I also ran the manual removal for HASP drivers, 'C:\haspdinst.exe -kp -r -fr -v -purge'
and just to be 100% sure, I erased any "aks*.*" files, "hardlock.sys" and "haspnt.sys" from "c:\windows\system32\drivers"

I rebooted the PC.

I then did option ' 2. Reset Windows Update Components' from the 'Reset Windows Update Tool' - ResetWUEng'.

I rebooted again.

I then did a search for updates and attempted to install the two updates available.

Which gave the following:

Again, many thanks for all your help.

Ahhh, .NET updates...

Using the .NET Collect Utility

  1. Download collect.exe and save to your desktop.
  2. Go ahead and run the tool
  3. The utility creates a compressed cabinet of all the needed logs to %TEMP%\vslogs.cab.
  4. Please zip/attach to this post or if too large, send using a service such as SendSpace.

Downloaded and ran: dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64 from the link.
When I un it I get: 'Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 Client Profile has already been installed on this computer.'

Control Panel: shows Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2' version 4.7.03062 is installed.

Should I remove this version first and then re-do the installation from your link ?

Thanks

Uninstalled Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2' version 4.7.03062
Rebooted
Installed dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64
Rebooted

Did a check for updates.
Screenshot attached of list of updates that were available

Updates Available Jan. 26 14.52.jpg

Ran Updates.
Screenshot attached of results of successful and failed updates.

Updates Results Jan. 26 16.43.jpg

Should I uninstall .NET again and start by installing from your link and then doing each update separately (starting with lowest KB number) ?

Thanks again.

I installed KB4481480 on it's own and the installation was Successful.

When I tried to install this update it failed and keeps rebooting in a loop.
I stopped the loop by selecting 'Safe Mode' which then rolled-back the update.

Once again, many many thanks for your help

Great! I think the update may not be needed, but let's try to see why the failure occurs:

Using the .NET Collect Utility

  1. Download collect.exe and save to your desktop.
  2. Go ahead and run the tool
  3. The utility creates a compressed cabinet of all the needed logs to %TEMP%\vslogs.cab.
  4. Please zip/attach to this post or if too large, send using a service such as SendSpace.

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 32-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

Code:
R2 Haspnt; C:\Windows\system32\drivers\Haspnt.sys [47616 2011-03-24] (Aladdin Knowledge Systems) [File not signed]

The following driver is the root cause of your issues and needs to be temporarily removed.
