Windows keeps asking to update over and over again, please help

So my windows update keeps asking to restart after about 5 mins of turning my laptop on, the first time it restarts can't be postponed but the one after can, so I've put up with it for a while but now it won't let me update my USB drivers because other updates need to be installed first apparently :banghead:

Where are you getting the "update USB drivers" from?
I have NEVER updated USB drivers. The "newest" computer in the house was purchased in August 2013 (Win 7 64 bit Home Premium). The three other Windows 7 computers were purchased in March 2013, 2011, and 2009.
 
I've been getting the message 'USB device not recognised' for a week or so and the HDD works perfectly on my computer at work, my printer works fine when plugged into my laptop's USB port too, I had a look online and fixes that have worked for people with the same problem have been to update the drivers through device manager but I can't get further than the 'windows needs to restart blah blah...' when trying to update them. No idea if I'm doing the right thing to get passed it but I've tried all I can think of (bought a new USB pen - same problem, restored the HDD on work's computer - same problem).

Let's try uploading the CBS logs with LogBot:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. [sfcfixdownload]Download SFCFix[/sfcfixdownload] (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Something didn't work out with the upload.

Allow the computer to complete the first restart, then browse to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS
Copy the CBS.log file to your Desktop, then right click on it and choose Send to... -> Compressed (zipped) Folder
Attach the CBS.zip file with your reply.
If the zip is larger than 8MB, please use a file sharing service such as OneDrive, DropBox, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.
 
Unfortunately I don't see anything in that particular log, it might be in one of the persisted copies.

Please zip the entire CBS folder (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS) and upload the zip to DropBox, then include the link with your reply.
 
I see a lot of the following error:

Please try the following to configure Windows for Clean Boot so we can further troubleshoot:

  1. Click the Start button, then type msconfig in the search box.
  2. Click msconfig in the results list.

Please try checking for new updates and install any that are offered.
If the update installation fails, zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
