[SOLVED] Windows couldn't search for new updates and sfc corruptions

Hello,

On my windows 7 computer, windows update cannot find new updates anymore, the error code is 8024000E.

Firstly, I checked on microsoft forums and saw that it could be due to intel rapid storage driver not installed. I downloaded it and launched the installer but it said that my PC does not meet the minimum requirements for the installation.

Then, I run a sfc /scannow in an admistrator prompt and at the end it told me that some of the repairs had failed. I also had an error dialog saying that wininet.dll was missing or corrupted.
=> I copied the most recent wininet.dll fiel I found in windows/.../* in windows/system32

After this, when redoing a sfc /scannow, I had the same results in the prompt (some repairs failed) but no more the error dialog window.

Then I discovered sfcfix on the forum and dowloaded it and run it. It told me that there was 25 corruption detected and that 2 was repaired.

I was following the instructions from The Tech Cookbook : Automatic SFC corruption repair, that's why at this step I require the help of an expert helper :-).

I attached the SFCfix.txt file I obtained aftert SFCFIX run and I am going to try to upload the CBS log with SFCfix because they are too large for direct attachment.

I uploaded successfully the CBS log with the SFCFixScript.txt and SFCFix.exe but it does not seem to be automatically added to my post. Should I do something differently ? I tried to follow exactly the instruction from windows-update-forum-posting-instructions.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

It appears you used the incorrect file for the fix. This is very easy to do. What I would recommend is that you delete all the SFCFix.zip files off of your desktop to avoid confusion. Once this is done, please repeat the steps in Post#5.

in effect I used the previous SFCFix.zip file (I used the link in the steps description instead of using the attached file).
Though when I used this file two days ago, I had a different behaviour than the first time, I had a reboot requested by SFCFix, and after the reboot, the windows update is now working correctly. - I thank you a lot for that -
But, as the sfc /scannow is still saying that it cannot correct all corrupted files, it might be great if we could continue the corrections batchs.
So, I did the steps described in post #5.
The result of SFCFix is pasted at the end of this post, but for the cbs.txt file, I don't know what to do as it is a 1.22 GByte file !
I repeated the sfc /scannow steps and the copy instruction (after having removed the previous one) and the cbs.txt file on my Desktop is still with a size of 1.22 GByte.
Should I upload it on my dropbox anyway ? Or should I do others hings ?

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the attached SFCFix.zip and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please



Step#2 - SFC Scan


  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
