I have had a Samsung SSD as my C: drive. In preparing to update to windows 10 I had to get a larger drive. I got a Samsung 500gb SSD and used the Samsung software to clone. All was PERFECT till I realized I did not get my Tuesday updates as I did on the other drive. As I stated the clone is perfect except that windows update is not working.

Thanks. Please do the following:

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

What do you mean temporarily. Do you mean uninstall? I have disabled smart firewall and auto protect prior without any luck.

Restart Windows in Safe Mode w/networking.

Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable

  • Extract the tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio.zip to c:\Windows\TEMP the zip will extract to a folder called Tweaking.com - Windows Repair
  • Execute the file Repair_Windows.exe from the Tweaking.com - Windows Repair folder, accept the Security warning and the EULA
  • Click the button Jump To Repairs
  • Click the Open Repairs button to access the following screen:
    WindowsRepair.png
  • Click the box All Repairs to uncheck all the boxes
  • Check only the following boxes:
    • 16 - Repair Windows Updates
  • Check the box Restart/Shutdown System When Finished > Restart System
  • Click the Start Repairs button
  • When the system reboots, attempt the update again.

PROBLEM:
I f8 to safe mode w/networking, screen says loading windows files, user icons appear, before I can click on my user name the PC reboots, windows starts and I am back to the windows login. If I reboot and F8 and same thing happens.

Therefore I need help getting in safe mode so I can execute your file.

Did as instructed, same problem.
Can I install MS Security Essentials antivirus while you continue to solve the problem?

Please don't. Stick to Malwarebytes while we troubleshoot.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace.

My concern is will this issue follow to windows 10 as I will do an upgrade 7 pro to 10 pro?

It is weird that the issue is with the SSD cloned drive.

Your thoughts, I am leaving now so I will read your reply much later.

Thanks so far anyways.

It definitely won't follow. If there is an issue, it will likely be easier to solve, but generally, I would really advise against cloning.

  1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
  2. Accept the License Agreement
  3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
  4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We want to get the ISO so that you don't have to keep downloading which can take hours.

PROBLEM has been FIXED.

So as you recall I could not get to login to safe mode. The system would get to the safe mode login and within a few seconds the PC would reboot. I figured out a Service name IScanWindowsService.exe when removed allowed me to login safe mode. And to my surprise the Windows Update issue is now resolved.

This is all I could find on this bugger, Clearly was installed on my system and took a bit to get it removed. Was not seen as malware, virus, etc.
Download Reason Antivirus, it’s FREE!
