I am having trouble using Windows Update currently. I get the message ''Windows can't update important files and services while the system is using them.'' I try restarting the PC as it suggests and nothing happens, it just wants me to restart again.
Tried some things over internet, but nothing helps.
Hope someone here helps me :)

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named LiquidTension. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Hello,

Given you intend on upgrading to Windows 10, you have a choice of two options when it comes to how we proceed from here.

  • Upgrade to Windows 10 now without necessarily needing to continue reparing your current Windows 7 installation.
  • Continue repairing your Windows 7 installation, allowing you to upgrade to Windows 10 afterwards/in the future.

Either option is viable, and ultimately down to personal preference. Please let me know your thoughts on the above, and how you wish to proceed.

I want to upgrade now to Windows 10, but I dont know how to do it since windows update is not working properly yet.
Thanks in advance

Hello,

To upgrade to Windows 10, please download the Media Creation Tool, and follow the instructions to upgrade using the tool:
Windows 10

Before running the tool, please perform a clean boot to rule out potential interference from third-party software:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/929135

Let me know how you get on, and if you encounter any issues.

Ok, now I have Windows 10!
No problems to install it.

But my windows update is still bad:

There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later.

Hello,

Are you having any issues connecting normally to the Internet? Does your computer sit behind a router? If so, have you recently performed a power cycle?

Router
Power Cycle

  • Switch your computer off.
  • Turn your router/modem off.
  • Unplug your router/modem and all cables from the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug your router/modem back in and turn on.
  • Switch your computer on.
  • Check for issues.

I don't know what happened. I tried to search updates again and again and now is working! Problem solved :))
