Hi everyone. Really glad to find this site =) I've been trying to fix an issue in my Vaio for some weeks with no success. Details below.

The problem started with Windows messages saying I needed to activate it. In the activation screen it states the Error is 0xC004F074. (My laptop is 2 years old, originally came with W8 and I upgraded to W8.1). After trying some fixes I found arround, I got to execute SFC scannow. The result said that some files that could not be repaired, so I kept googling and executed dism /checkhealth and /restorehealth. This time I got error 0x800f0906 ("files can't be downloaded") so I kept googling and ended up here reading some threads with problems similar to mine. I downloaded and ran SFCFix. Below I paste the report, dropbox link to CBS folder, and my laptop details just in case.

I'd really appreciate it if you could help me. Thanks for all your work!

Kind regards,

Tawdee

Hello,

I have some bad news, this version of Windows look like it was a counterfeit.

Do you still have the original discs and product key?

Hi.

Wow, that's surprising. I didn't get any disc nor product key. I got the laptop brand new from a well-known store in the city.

When I first called the store they said I could have a virus that was preventing the system from authenticating program keys... I ran the antivirus several times but the problem was still there. I haven't taken the laptop to the store because that means several days without my only working tool (I work in graphic and web design). Besides, I trust forums better than store-technicians. I thought about running hiren's boot cd to see if I could find any problem, but I wasn't sure about how running hiren in W8.1.

Any further help or suggestion on what to do?

Thanks a lot GTP, really grateful with your help.

Sorry for the bad news, but the key that has been used here can be found everywhere on the web.

I would contact the store and say you have been given a counterfeit version of windows, threaten to report them to MS. If you do report to MS in some cases they will actually give you a license for free. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/howtotell/cfr/Report.aspx

Hi Go The Power. After some weeks I finally took the laptop to the store. I had emailed the company directors and they had answered with an explanation about windows keys. Since some time ago windows keys in Vaio come pre-installed from factory. They are integrated in the bios. My laptop is having another type of problem (probably an update that was incomplete and started generating this problem and BSODs). I took the laptop to the store technician and he could get the key from the bios (it's not the one you can find on the internet, it's another one). He did all this process in front of me in a couple of minutes and activated my windows again. I can affirm the software is not counterfeit.
Thanks for your advice anyway!
