Hi there,

Thanks so much for all your guys help in advance.

I've been having an update issue with windows 8 (80070490).

I ran the SFC scannow tool and it picked up nothing.

After that I tried the DISM tool and it picked up corruption but was unable to repair it (0x800f081F).

I will post the logs in a follow on post.

Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated :).

Thanks
Darryl

OK, well we've made some progress. A number of updates have managed to complete but the following updates still fail

KB000850 (Massive 700MB) update - Tried both downloading it and installing the MSU file and going through the windows updated.

A bunch of optional updates, namely,

KB3013816
KB3058168
KB3064209

I've tried installing them as a group and individually with no luck.

OK, it's now down to one update KB3000850, the error I'm getting has changed to 80073712.

(edit) left out a 3 on kb3000850

Thanks for the info. Please do the following.

1. Install KB3000850 and let it fail.
2. Immediately zip/send me the following two logs.
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

This confirmed my suspicion. Please do the following to correct.

Code:
!!! sto: Failed to find driver update 'C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\amd64_mdmbtmdm.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16503_none_deb7b1075f15fe96\mdmbtmdm.inf' in Driver Store. Error = 0x00000490

Manually Install Driver
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
pnputil -a C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_mdmbtmdm.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16503_none_deb7b1075f15fe96\mdmbtmdm.inf

3. You will likely get a Windows Security warning. You will want to click "Install this driver anyway"
4. Make sure it says something like "Driver package added successfully." within the command-prompt window. If there is any kind of error, please let me know.

Try installing the failed update again.

when i put in pnputil -a C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_mdmbtmdm.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16503_none_deb7b1075f15fe96\mdmbtmdm.inf.

I get an error saying "adding the driver package failed : the style of the INF is different from as requested."

That's odd. Can you navigate to that location C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_mdmbtmdm.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16503_none_deb7b1075f15fe96 to find the mdmbtmdm.inf ? Once you find it, right-click on it and choose Install. Let me know what if it says it was successful.

Thanks.

i received the below error? very odd... maybe its corrupted.

The INF file youve selected does not support this method of installation.

the style of inf is different from what was requested.

Probably. Let's see what update it came from so we can replace with a good copy. Please do the following.
