Anyone have a clue as to why the actual backup utility for Windows 8 is labeled "Windows 7 File Recovery" in the control panel?
Seems to me if you are re-imagining Windows and you want everyone to accept your new branding, naming something Windows 7 File Recovery is kinda counter-intuitive. Especially when you already have a control panel applet named "Recovery". Seems Windows 8 Backup, would have been a better choice of names.
And interestingly enough, when you type "backup" at the much touted and highly lauded Metro / Whatever we're suppose to call it now, you don't actually find a link to Windows 7 File Recovery or really much related to Windows Backup by any name.
Curiouser and curiouser.

EDIT: If you type it as two words Back up, you then get a link to Windows 7 file recovery.... DOH!!
Where it is then typed five different times as the single word backup

Probably lack of beta testing. There was not enough feedback available from consumers for the developers to be told of all issues. Obviously, this was one that was missed. Wonder if they'll patch it... I confirmed that I see the same on the Release Preview, though I am somewhat surprised that it made it to the RTM in the same state.

At first, I thought maybe it was just an option available to restore backups made in Windows 7, but then I saw that it also includes the option to backup files and make system images. Appears to be a mistake to me.

I was wondering the same at first, but although I never tested it, I assumed it was for people who had a Windows 7 installation on their hard drive to be able to recover files from that to move to Windows 8 easily.

I can see my Windows 7 partition though when I have Windows 8 Pro RTM installed as a VHD anyways lol. Along with all my other partitions and hard drives.
