The next public version of Windows 8 is reportedly completed, about two weeks ahead of its planned launch to the world. Winunleaked.tk claims that Microsoft has finished work on the Windows 8 Release Preview (otherwise known as the release candidate) which will have the version number of 8400.

The post on the Winunleaked.tk forums
(free registration required) supposedly has an image of the Start screen from the 8400 Release Preview build of Windows 8. The post also
claims that the SKUs that will be launched for the Release Preview include Windows 8 (Core), Windows 8 Release Preview (Pro), Windows 8 Release Preview with Media Center (ProWMC) and Windows 8 Enterprise (VL).

I'm guessing they are beta testing at this point, maybe asking MS employees to test it out before they release it, otherwise possibly MVP's or some other equivilant to start helping them test it out before releasing to the public as well. This June they should have this released though i'd assume.

there's a beta group of half-a-gazillion users. as i recall, you have to sign up and be approved. i assuming, of course, that the signup period is waaaay over.

otoh, win 7 was downloadable and ran for some months before it expired. i have my copy still, and i was not part of the beta group.

More Windows 8 Release Preview screenshots leak out

The Windows 8 Release Preview is reportedly just a few more days away from being offered to the general public by Microsoft. Some Internet rumors have claimed the launch date will be this Friday, June 1st. Meanwhile, more screenshots of the 8400 build version are being posted up at the WinUnleaked.tk website.

One of the screenshots
shows the pre-installation menu for Windows 8, with the two choices of installing Windows 8 with a PC's current settings or one that offers a clean install of Windows 8.

Haha, not much to see there to be honest, I was curious to see how the desktop looked, this isn't very much though. (Missing that start orb and Aero, even though I enjoy both Aero and Metro.)

I hate to say it but I am not seeing the furor over win 8 that there was over win 7. Might be a big Yawn!

While the Chinese version of the Windows 8 Release Preview build may have been leaked onto the Internet a few days ahead of schedule, most of the rest of the world will likely wait until Microsoft launches the official versions of the OS. While that is supposed to happen during the first week of June, Microsoft and other third-party developers have gone ahead and updated the Windows 8 Metro apps in preparation for the Release Preview launch.
