Windows 8 apps not launching correctly

hello, i wish to thank in advance for any and all help that i receive.

now to my issue, after running my avast boot time scan, my windows apps quit working, the apps would begin to launch then suddenly quit, so I went to try and do a sfc /scannow to repair any damage that may have been caused and i received this lovely message after the scan.... "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. details are included in the CBS.log. "

so i went into the log files and accessed the CBS.log file, and that's where i get lost, i scrolled through the file and really didn't understand anything. in an effort to fix it myself i began to search the web and came across a thread in this site that was similar to my issue but for vista, not windows 8. so i kindly request help of figuring out the corrupted files, and how to restore them to working order.
