Having used Windows 8 without issue, I went up to 8.1 in November 2014. The change seemed to go OK and I noticed no problems so thought no more about it. Automatic updates was enabled as it had been before and I assumed all was well as I had no issues before. I recently had a reason to check updates to find that it does not seem updating is taking place. It seems to check for updates as it is supposed to but since I went to 8.1 only the following has happened:
KB2990967 – repeatedly installs successfully
KB2975719 – always fails
KB3003667 – always fails
I have run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and it tells me some Windows Update components must be repaired and that they have been fixed. However, trying to install the pending updates again just gives the same as above with error code 8007007E.
I have tried to use sfc /scannow but I receive the message “Windows Resource Protection could not start the repairservice”.
I have also tried using DISM.exebut I received the message "Error 126 The specified modulecould not be found".
I have had a chat session with an MS Answer Tech who took me through some troubleshooting but this got me nowhere. The Answer Tech then recommended that I follow the steps in this which although it does not say so, I was assured also applied to 8.1:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us
I ran sfcfix and this was the log file:
SFCFix version 2.4.2.1 by niemiro.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
