Hi
I have been trying to apply Windows 8.1 update KB3000850

It keeps failing

I have run sfc /scannow which reports errors that can not be fixed.

Can I ask if you can help me to fix them.
I attach the CBS file as a Zip

Thanks

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Please do the following. Also, do you happen to have a Kodak printer?

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - Verify Corruption is fixed
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Thank you for the info. Let's do the following.

Step#1 - Manually download/install the update.
Please manually download the update and try installing.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44977

If this doesn't work then go on to Step#2.

Step#2 - Create Missing Folders
Are you comfortable with creating folders and copying files around? If not let me know and I'll automate this more for you.

Please create the following two folders in bold. Please copy/paste the name so it's exact.

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wiaek002.inf_amd64_57f9361b96ceea4b
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnekcl2.inf_amd64_59438dc7ce792b20

Copy wiaek002.inf from C:\Windows\Inf and paste into the 1st folder you created above.
Copy prnekcl2.inf from C:\Windows\Inf and paste into the 2nd folder you created above.

Now try installing the update. Please use the one that was manually downloaded.

Windows has updated from the Manual Download.

the two folders you mentioned do not exist.
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wiaek002.inf_amd64_57f9361b96ceea4b
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnekcl2.inf_amd64_59438dc7ce792b20

do I need to do anything else?

I read your post. I had a kodak printer. Was able to get the first file copied. However, prnekcl2.inf is not on my computer. I looked where you suggested as well as a complete search on computer. Is there a way to get a copy of this file. After copying the first file wiaek002.inf I tried again even though I did not have the prnekcl2.inf. This time kb3000850 went to 9% instead of 8% before failing. I hope you can help.
Thank you
Myrna
