On my windows 8.1 32bit pc I am unable to install the windows updates (1) KB3058515 and (2) Intel Corporation Driver Update for Intel HD Graphics :huh:

I would appreciate help repairing the constant problems I have now with updates. Thanks.

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named Aura. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Hi The Don :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you under Brian's supervision (like he explained already). Let's start by running a SFC scan and get a CBS.log to see what we can find it in. Follow the instructions below please.

  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:

    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;

Now, can you try to install the first update only (KB3058515) and leave the Intel drivers out? I want to see if it installs successfully.

How does it fails? Does it fails with an error code on the installation (if it does, what is it?), do you get throught the reboot but then it says that it failed and it revert the changes?

Hi there - no did not even get to reboot - I did not see an error code - is there a log file I can upload?

How do you know that the update fail? And you can upload C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log, yes.

Hi Aura

Apologies for my late reply... in the meantime the update KB3058515 has installed - after this I removed Internet Explorer 11 and now find that an important update waiting to be installed is KB3065822 and I don't have internet explorer installed???? What next?
