Hi

I installed Windows 8.1 and I have a problem by the sound. The sound stutters, crackles.

Motherboard: GA-EP31-DS3L

I've tried to install the drivers for the sound card but it did not solve the problem. I also tried on the default controller. But I still the same. I have no idea what could be wrong.

Thanks for your attention and help.

Hi -

How old is the hardware?

Gigabyte shows the latest BIOS dated 5/2009 (that is pre-Windows 7 and is a beta version) -

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-EP31-DS3L (rev. 2.0)

Did you run the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant?

Update to Windows 8.1: FAQ - Windows Help

What OS were you running prior to Windows 8.1?

I asked about the BIOS because when I upgraded my Vista laptop to Windows 7, I experienced crackling audio and the solution was an HP BIOS update. That same system easily upgraded to Windows 8, then 8.1 without any further issues.

Hi

Now I have installed Windows 7 and I have no problems with the Sound-both on drivers for Realtek is standard installed with the system. According to the program LatencyMon the problem caused two files. I8042prt.sys and driver directx for displaying the GUI (do not remember the exact name).
