have Windows 8.1 and ran SFC numerous times and it always states that there are corrupted files it can't fix. I ran your SFCfix executable file after I ran the latest SFC scan and ran the DISM program and it produced a SFCfix.txt file which I'm attaching. Can you help me. There are about 18 corrupted files.

Hi philchris!
Have you used this command from an elevated command prompt?

Code:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

:welcome:

Download View attachment fix.zip, extract it in a folder without subfolders.
You can (should) check if I have exactly copied your corrupted files... (yes, I'm human)
Open an elevated command prompt, go to that folder, type takeown /r and press enter.
Check some folders and some files properties, security tab, if your user has been added.
If you see my username, you can delete it.
You can finally copy all directories/folders and paste them in c:\system\winsxs.
Restart Windows, re-try the sfc /scannow command.

If something isn't clear enough, ask.

Xilolee, I performed take ownership of the files. I haven't yet copied them to the WinSxS directory. How do I returned ownership to TrustedInstaller? Are these the same files I had or are they from another source. Thanks

I'm also enclosing the CBS.ZIP file that Tekno Venus requests of those asking for help with SFC scannow corruption deficiency..

Hello,

I would like to you to use the following technique to replace the files. It is much easier, faster and safer than Xilolee's method.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and X to open up the Power User Tasks Menu
  2. Click (or tap) Command Prompt (admin)
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15 minutes)

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Stephen

Just seen the CBS folder you've uploaded - thanks for that.

Please continue with the above fix, and we'll progress from there. Some interesting stuff going on in your CBS log! :p

Stephen

I'll upload the first SFCfix.txt that was created by dropping the SFCfix.zip file into the SFCfix.exe file. I don't want the second txt file to overwrite this one. I'll send the other info as soon as I can create it.

Techno, I did the SFC /scannow, then did the second command to convert the log file to a txt file. Here it is, I hope it is useful. This problem is very tough. I wasn't sure what you meant by code /code. Thanks.

PS I tried to upload it as a txt file, but it wouldn't upload, probably because it was 8 MB. I zipped the file.

Hi Tekno, I was wondering if you found anything solutions to my problem with the corrupted files on Windows 8.1. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay! Been very busy with school lately.

Will have a look ASAP.

Stephen

Hi,

Sorry, been busy and ill today so haven't had chance to look. I will try to get to you Tuesday, but no promises I'm afraid. Tom may help you if I do not

Stephen

Let's fix this up.

Tekno, here are the files you requested. I'm not sure what you meant by tags. If you need anything else, please let me know. Thanks, Phil

Hi Tekno, I've tried some things on my own but still don't have a fix for this problem. I'm wondering if you've had any success or if you know of anyone else who might help me on this SFC problem. Thanks, Phil

Hello again Phil,

I am so, so sorry about the delay again. I honestly forgot your thread again.

Please PM me if I don't get back within 48 hours - I should be able to get to you faster, I have slightly less schoolwork this week!

SFC is reporting more corruptions. I am going to see what I can get Windows to repair automatically to save some time here.

DISM

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and X to open up the Power User Tasks Menu
  2. Click (or tap) Command Prompt (admin)
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15 minutes)

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Tekno, here is the CBS log in zipped format. I started it today at about 14 hours and some change. I hope it helps.

Hi Phil,

Interesting... DISM didn't detect any corruptions:

Code:
Summary:
Operation: Detect and Repair
Operation result: 0x0
Last Successful Step: Entire operation completes.
Total Detected Corruption: 0
    CBS Manifest Corruption: 0
    CBS Metadata Corruption: 0
    CSI Manifest Corruption: 0
    CSI Metadata Corruption: 0
    CSI Payload Corruption: 0
Total Repaired Corruption: 0
    CBS Manifest Repaired: 0
    CSI Manifest Repaired: 0
    CSI Payload Repaired: 0
    CSI Store Metadata refreshed: True

Which is either a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it :p

Can you do one more SFC scan for me please?

SFC Scan

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and X to open up the Power User Tasks Menu
  2. Click (or tap) Command Prompt (admin)
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

Kind regards,
Stephen

Tekno, I ran the SFC /scannow and also dropped the SFCfix.zip file over the SFCfix.exe to produce the SFCfix.txt. I'm including that with the zipped cbs.log file. I looked at that log file too and saw no errors so I ran the SFC /scannow check and found the usual errors. Phil
