Hi,

Have had some issues with updates not going through as per the title. Followed the steps on this page, got the following SFCFix log:

SFCFix version 120.105.0.0 by niemiro.

Thanks for the fix! What additional steps (e.g. restarting my computer, running another program) would you recommend, if any, given the log output below?

With that said, are there any more steps to take, or any extra scans I should perform to ensure everything is fixed?

Please check Windows Updates and report the result.

I restarted my computer and found that the update still reverted. A use of sfc /scannow confirmed that there were errors and yielded the CBS log folder linked below.

CBS.zip

SFCFix detected corruptions, but when attempting to use dism to fix the corruption, got the following error:

47531

After this, SFCFix claimed that it didn't detect any errors, and it gave me the following log output:

There still seem to be some corruptions. Do you have any more scripts based on the CBS folder I attached earlier, or should I upload a new CBS folder based on the results of another scan?

In addition to the CBS folder, I have also included dism.log, which may provide some insight into Error 1726, as pictured in a previous reply.

Also, note that a use of chkdsk c: didn't detect any errors, and that chdsk /r didn't fix any of these issues either.

Both some scans and a quick restart + failed update show that there are still some issues:

logs.zip

For reference, I believe these two are the updates that fail to complete and are rolled back; in the original post, two Flash-related files were corrupted:

This time around, SFCFix's use of DISM got me this error, rather than Error 1726:

  • Right-click the Start button and click Commandprompt (Run as administrator).
  • A Window appears. Typ CHKDSK and press the enter key.
  • Wait until CHKDSK is finished.
  • Download ListChkdskResult.exe by SleepyDude and save it on your desktop.
  • Rightclick
    58a60a47ed1bd-ListChkdskResult.PNG
ListChkdskResult.exe and click Run as administrator. On completion the tool will save a textfile called ListChkdskResult.txt on your desktop.
  • Attach this textfile to your next reply.

It would seem that there is 1244 KB of data in some bad sectors, which I failed to notice when running CHKDSK previously:

43627831 allocation units available on disk.

These bad sectors were possibly created when my battery backup started to fail, which is shortly before these issues first started.

The following might take several hours to complete. You can do it overnight if you like.

Click on Start - All Programs - Accessories.
Right-click on Command-prompt and select Run as administrator.
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards.

Code:
chkdsk c: /f /r
At the question "Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)", press Y.
Restart the system.

Do not press any key during the restart. This will allow CHKDSK to start.
Wait for this to complete. Please note that this may take several hours. Let it run even if it looks like the process has stopped!
On completion, the system will restart automatically.

It would seem that running chkdsk didn't fix any of the bad sectors. At minimum, when the computer restarted, it still seemed to not install all of the Windows Updates.

Windows has finished checking your disk.
Please wait while your computer restarts.

Does this mean the damage is unrepairable, or is there some other way I can fix this? Assuming that the bad sectors are what's preventing Windows Update, that is.

The log looks good for now. There are still damaged files that need to be replaced. Please be patient.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.
