[SOLVED] Windows 7-x64 Security updates fail

I recently discovered that the installation of five Windows 7-x64 Security updates have failed, specifically:


KB3060708
KB3060716
KB3071756
KB3080149
KB3121212


The MS Security Essentials definitions install normally. In addition to Security Essentials, I use Malwarebytes Premium.


Fearing that the computer might have a virus, I also ran the Trend Micro online scan, AdwCleaner, JRT Junkware Removal Tool and Hitman Pro. Hitman Pro identified and deleted two possible malware files:


Local\Xenocode\ApplianceCaches\%APPNAME%.EXE_v2AF6BAC0\Native\STUBEXE\@SYSTEM@\rundll32.exe
Local\AppData\Local\Xenocode\ApplianceCaches\%APPNAME%.EXE_v2AF6BAC0\Native\STUBEXE\@PROGRAMFILES@\InternetExplorer\iexplore.exe


I then downloaded the individual update packages and tried to install each manually. Each time, the green progress bar reached the end, but after about 10 minutes, posted a message that the install failed.


I then ran the system file checker, which reported no problems. CheckSUR reported that KB3061518 was corrupt and could not be repaired. I placed Windows6.1-KB3061518-x64.msu in C:\Windows\temp\CheckSUR\Packages and again ran CheckSUR, but the corrupted files were not repaired.

cbs.zip is 8.16 MB, so I will upload later it via dropbox.


What do you suggest?

    • Copy and paste the files of the Packages folder (if there are any) inside C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\servicing\Packages
  • Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again;
  • On completion, attach the log located at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log in your next reply;

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select

    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code: 
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code: 
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.
 
SFC also returned a clean log :) Now, try to install your Windows Updates, and if they fail, upload the two files below for me to review please.

Before I check the logs, can you restart your computer and try to install the 5 that failed again? If they fail, please re-upload the new CBS.log and WindowsUpdate.log for me please.
 
After restarting, Windows Update now shows 7 updates that did not install. I have uploaded the two log files via Dropbox.

Is it possible for you to post the download links to these files?
 
It looks like a connection issue. If you enter the link below in your web browser and try to access it, does it downloads a file named wuident.cab?

Success! KB3060716 was successfully installed. After restarting the computer, KB3060716 no longer appears on the Windows Update install list and does appear in the list of installed updates.
