I am having a problem with windows update wanting to constantly restart. I saw that multiple people here had the same problem and had gotten helped fixing it. I get the message:
Restart your computer to install important updates. Windows cant update important files and services while the system is using them. Make sure to save your files before restarting.
Obviously I have tried restarting multiple times only for it to come right back up. I also noticed that the update history is empty. I tried running the fixit tool but it did nothing. I saw somewhere that uninstalling some updates may help and I have tried that to no avail.
Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Let's see if we can get you fixed up. Please start with the following.
1. Click your start button and type cmd in the search box.
2. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes to the UAC prompt if it appears.
3. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window and hit enter. reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate /s >1.txt && notepad 1.txt
4. Notepad will open showing the WU info. Can you copy and paste this into your next reply?
Step#1 - SFCFix Script Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
Save any open documents and close all open windows.
On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
SFCFix will now process the script.
Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please
