Hi,

I got a new hdd the other night and installed Windows 7 on it. I went through the process the way that I always do but now whenever I tray to activate or validate my Windows with the product key it doesn't work. I am not sure what to do at this point. I am getting really annoyed at this and now my windows says that it isn't a genuine copy. I am not sure what to do and I would like to get this figured out as fast as possible.

So I called the microsoft number and I seemed to have figured everything out. I am still not sure why I needed to do that though?

How many times have you used the key to reinstall?
I've had that issue with the family pack 3 license upgrade when I installed a new hard drive and MS said I used all 3 licenses, I said yes but I'm trying to reinstall on a new hard drive in the first PC.........no problem issued a activation number.

I have used the key a few times. I figured that would be the problem, but I wanted to check with some of you how know windows better than me.

Was the Windows 7 keycode in use on the old HDD the same day/week/month prior to the install on the new HDD?

If so, that in itself would have caused a non-Genuine status.

When my HDD went, I installed Windows 7 on a new HDD within a few days and had a similar issue.

Please post an MGADiag report - it may show what the problem was, and will certainly show if there are any residual problems that need addressing.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

So I have fixed the problem. I called the microsoft number and entered some information and then it gave me a new code of some sort and now the activation message has gone away. I have done this before so i figured that it would work.
