Windows 7 updates nearly always fail

I've seen other threads like this, but with warnings not to try the fixes listed, as they are for that particular situation. So, I'm posting this. I hope someone can help.

I've tried all sorts of things I've found in researching the problem, such as those listed on a MS support page here. (I didn't get as far as the registry fixes, though.)

I have the CBS log (very long, and with tons of "failures" listed) and the CheckSUR logs and some CbsPersist cabs, if they are useful.

As an example, the latest error I got when an update didn't install was: Code 800F0900.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Jamminjames :welcome: to Sysnative.

Export the CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    Win7Orb.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please, if the file is too big please upload the file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.
