Windows 7 Update to SP1 fails - 0x800B0100

Hi,

i would be very happy if someone can help me with the following problem:
Windows 7 Update fails with error 0x800B0100.

I run the System Update Readiness Tool v12: the checksur.log says that a number of files are corrupted so i extracted 9 of 11 files from the KB and placed them in the c:\Windows\Temp\CheckSUR\... folders. The other 2 files were not in the KB and i can't find them on the system.
Run SUR -> Error in Logfile. Duplicated 2 files and renamed them with the names of the missing files -> Error in Logfile. Deleted the 2 files -> looks good, but error in log because of the 2 missing files.

The missing files are:
Package_for_KB2675157~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~9.4.1.0.mum
Package_for_KB2675157~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~9.4.1.0.cat

Maybe there are other errors. I will attach the CBS log.

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

You will probably be shown the error code 0x8024200D after performing this fix, if so, please download and install the update from this link. It must be downloaded using Internet Explorer.

Hello Tom,

thank you for reply. I've downloaded the KB2675157 with IE.

But the dropbox download of the Packs.zip fails with error 404:
"Error (404)We can't find the page you're looking for. Check out our Help Center and forums for help, or head back to home."
I tried it with IE and firefox.

Can you check if the link is working for you?

Hello Tom,

i have downloaded the Packs.zip and put the files into the directories.
The SP1 installer fails with error 0x800f0818.
The installation of the KB2675157 fails also, the installer says that the setup ist stopped because there is a newer version of ie installed.

Is there another solution?

Hello Tom,

thank you for your help.
I put the 2 files in the folders and the installation of the SP1 was sucessfull. Even IE10 and all windows updates installed sucessful.

So thank you very much.
At least i've one question: where did you get the 2 files? Are they located in a windows update or is it possible to download a *.mum file via windows update?

They are in a Windows Update. If you look at the package name it takes the form: Package_for_{KB Article Number}~{Public Key}~{Architecture}~{Version}. Yes, there are other structures, but this is the general, and most common form.

The KB article number and version number are the ones we're interested in. Take the number after the KB prefix and add it to the end of this URL: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/. This brings us to the update's web page:

Click on the link next to IT Professionals to see the various download links. In this case, it doesn't matter because the updates are the same for XP/Vista/Windows 7 and IE7-10, but I would then look at the version number as this is an IE update. 9.4.1.0 indicates IE9. You're running 64 bit Windows 7 SP1 so we want the download link for the Windows 7 x64 SP1 IE9 update, which is this:

I then downloaded it, extracted it, then uploaded the files you needed :)

thank you very much for your detailed answer and your hint with the KBExtractor.
So all my question are answered and next time i'm able to extract the KB correctly. :thumbsup2:
