Hello,
I'm new to the forums, let me know if this is the wrong place for this topic.

Yesterday (Wed, 13 Aug 2014) I installed new windows updates on my Win7 computer. When I booted up the pc this morning I got a black screen with a message (see screenshot).
Translated to:
Installing settings for: Update of Windows-desktop

Nothing happens after this... I tired a suggested solution which included downloading the black screen fix from http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?GRAB=BLACKSCREENFIX
But I can't get the page to show in my browser.

I don't want to do a hard reset on the PC yet because I'm afraid I'll lose files.

Please help!

I got it to work somehow by rebooting the PC through task manager. All I did was hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE, new application and then i typed in "shutdown -r".
Hope that helps anyone that has same issue.

Hello virttop and welcome to the forum :)

If you would like to make sure that there are no file corruptions caused by Windows Update, please do the following:

Download and run System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

  • Please go Here and download the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT). Save this file to your desktop
  • Go to your desktop and run KB947821
  • When the SURT finishes installing please continue with the following steps.

SFC /SCANNOW

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next please post please upload via Dropbox or ge.tt

thanks
