windows 7 update error help please error code:800b0100

Hi,

I have a second hand laptop with windows 7 installed. I installed ESeT smart security and done the window updates and in the process I have been getting the error code error code:800b0100

I have tried the windows fix (Windows Update readiness tool) and also error checking, under computer,c drive, properties, tools.

Help with resolving this would be much appreciated, as I have spent several evening trying to fix with no luck.

I am also having trouble attaching the CBS zip file to this post.

SURT Package replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click Here to download Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

This is common to happen after Windows update corrupt files have been fixed.

Software Distribution rename

  • Click Start -> Type in CMD in the search -> Right click on cmd.exe and choose Run as Administrator
  • Entre in the following commands:
    net stop wuauserv
    ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download DL.bak
    ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DS.bak
    net start wuauserv

Run WU again, take note of which KB fail. It is then just a case of manually downloading the updates from MS Download Center = https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/

If you are not sure which ones you need let me know the KB numbers and I will find them for you.

With "ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download DL.bak" it come backs with "A duplicate file name exists, or the file cannot be found."
I did try this process a couple of times so maybe that's why. The same message came back for "ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download DL.bak"

Its now only 1 update that's failing and I manually downloaded this but still no joy. Update is KB3033929 and error code is 8024200D.

Hello again,

I have no managed to resolve, well I tried this update but that didn't work either. Microsoft help desk assisted in the end, as I was also having trouble downloading Office 2010. However I now have no sound. Playing around with the sound settings and playing the test buttons, produces "failed to play test tone".
I have tried reinstalling the sound drivers, making sure the drivers are up to date, all with no joy. It looks like it works but no sound coming out. I don't know if the children dropped the laptop, I don't think so and I cant see any obvious dents etc. So not sure what the problem could be. Does the problems I had with Windows update sometimes cause such subsequent issues?
I can see this isn't the right forum to ask such questions, so will understand if you are able to assist any further.

Hello again,

If you look down inside the System tray (Where the time is located) right click on the sound icon -> Choose Playback devices -> Can you see options inside this list? Can you right click on the other options and choose Test, can you hear anything? If you right click on any of the options in the list click on show disabled devices -> can you try a test with these ones too? I am not sure if this the same as what was done with the MS tech.
