Windows 7 update error 800F0900

I've been trying to figure out why my windows 7 x64 fails to run windows update with error 800F0900 for months with no luck. I've run through all the microsoft "utilities" (fixit, update diag, etc) with no resolution. Through my searching this forum seems to be the most helpful and productive. So per my reading of various threads, I've run the SURT and am pasting the CheckSUR.log below. Please let me know if you can help, or if I need to provide more info, thanks!

I actually read over your forum (should have been my first move, right?) and have taken a few more steps. And now I have an interesting result?

I ran your SFCFix.exe and have pasted the log below. It fixed somethings but not everything. I then ran SURT which again came back with errors, however less this time, and I've pasted that log below.

So for kicks, I asked windows update to check for updates and... it is now updating! So thanks! However SURT did come back with errors, do I need to worry about them?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The errors that were first reported by SURT, can be quite concerning, if you look at the lines you will notice a lot of the files have these random symbols added.

This may be an indication of possible hardware failure. Before we fix the reset of the files please perform the following tests.

Warning:: This fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

Warning:: Before doing anything it is a good idea to back up any data/files that are important to you, in case your hard drive is dying. Please see Here

What I recommend from here is to run some HDD diagnostics. Please follow the steps here for SeaTools HDD Diagnostics. Run a Long test and a Short test, then report back the results to this thread.

chkdsk /f scan

Right click on the Start button and select Run as administrator
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

chkdsk /f
Reboot
Download ListChkdskResult.exe (by SleepyDude) from Here
Double click on it to run it. It will take a few seconds to scan, then it will open a Notepad window with the log. Copy and paste the contents of this into your next post please!
